Christmas with the PSK: Frankincense

Frankincense, more precious than gold. This essential oil dates way back to biblical times and in the ancient of days was prized more valuable than gold. Frankincense is gentle, yet equally powerful. It has such a broad variety of uses ranging from emotional support to amazing skin benefits.

Gift your loved one this Christmas with a little bit of Frankincense. If they have trouble with their studies or are involved in an occupation which requires mental alertness and focus, consider this Focus Roll-on. If they love the idea of caring for their skin and are always looking for the next best skin cream, give this Firming Face Cream a try, it makes for a wonderful, luxurious bedtime skin care regimen.

Another sweet way to gift Frankincense this year is with a Skin Soothing Milk Bath. Milk has been known for it’s skin soothing abilities and by adding Frankincense to the recipe, it just got even better!

More Precious Than Gold

You do not have to be a DIY’er to bless someone with the gift of Frankincense. You can gift the entire 5ml bottle to a loved one. Tuck it into some fun holiday themed packaging and don’t forget a cute gift tag.

While mixing your recipes in the kitchen, or preparing to wrap gifts, add a little bit of Frankincense into the diffuser with a little bit of Christmas Spirit and enjoy the sweet aroma of Christmas Blessing.

Did you know that you can take any diffuser blend and turn it into a room spray? You can! Simply add the desired amount to a glass or stainless steel spray/spritz bottle and fill with water! I recommend a pinch of salt or a little vegetable glycerin to help keep the essential oils evenly dispersed.

Pamper yourself, or someone you love, all with one kit! Here is how to use your Premium Starter Kit for a relaxing spa experience.

************************************

SPA ATMOSPHERE: Create your spa atmosphere by dimming the lights, playing soft music, and diffusing calming essential oil or essential oil blend such as Lavender, Citrus Fresh, or Stress Away.

MASSAGE: Prepare a soothing massage oil by combining a couple drops of PanAway with a little carrier oil, then gently massage into tired muscles and feet to help them unwind from a long day. Whether you spend 30 minutes or 60 minutes on a massage, take your time and allow the aromas, music, and calming atmosphere to take over your senses as you escape the cares of the day.

FACIAL: Frankincense is a wonderful skin supporting essential oil to incorporate into a skincare routine or facial massage. An easy moisturizer can be made with coconut oil and a couple drops of Frankincense essential oil.

FOOT SOAK: Place a few drops of Raven along with 1/2 cup Epsom Salts into a foot bath or bowl of hot water. Allow the feet to spend some time here while casually flipping through your EO Magazine included with the kit.

SPA WATER: Place a drop of any of the Vitality essential oils into a glass of water and serve after the spa treatment.

SPA DRINK: Tear open one of the NingXia Red packets and pour over ice. Slowly sip for a wonderful way to replenish the body.

CLEAN UP: When you are finished pampering, or being pampered, use the Thieves Household Cleaning Packet to clean up. Pour the contents into a spray bottle, fill the remaining bottle with water and begin spraying and cleaning as you go.

Perfume with Angelica Essential Oil

7667030-14rejparfumejpgThe language of perfumery uses a kind of musical scale comprising of base notes, middle notes, and high notes. It is a symphony of aromatic elements moving together in harmony. It is an art that is taken as seriously as musical composers or painters creating a masterpiece. Enter Angelica.

Angelica archangelica is considered a feminine top note. Top notes are the most volatile, meaning they evaporate quickly and are therefore the ones you smell first. The top note gradually evaporates and leaves the middles notes, which eventually fade and reveal the base notes.  The following list gives you a few ideas of base notes and middles notes to blend with angelica in orchestrating your own aromatic, harmonic fragrance.

Base Notes

  • Cedarwood
  • Cinnamon
  • Frankincense
  • Myrrh
  • Patchouli
  • Sandalwood
  • Vetiver

Middle Notes

  • Cassia
  • Clary Sage
  • Marjoram
  • Neroli
  • Nutmeg
  • Palmarosa
  • Thyme

How to Decide

Know what fragrance you are aiming for when blending together. Are you aiming for it to be woodsy, floral, musky, fresh, minty, resinous, camphorous, etc.? Then from here, decide which  type of perfume you would like to make.

Type of Perfume

Type of Perfume – Essential Oil Concentration – Diluent Concentration

Perfume, 15-30%, 70-85% (5-10% is water)
Eau de parfum, 8-15%, 85-92% (10-20% is water)
Eau de toilette, 4-8%, 92-96% (10-20% is water)
Eau de cologne, 3-5%, 95-97% (30% is water)
Splash cologne/body spritz, 1-3%, 97-99% (20% is water)

The above ratios are broken down first by the essential oil blend you create using base, middle and top notes. In perfume, the essential oil blend will make up 15%-30%. Next is adding the alcohol which will make up 70-85% with 5-10% being distilled water. This makes up your perfume. Follow the ratios for Eau de parfum, Eau de toilette, Eau de cologne, and splash cologne/body spritz if you decide on one of them as well.

Capture

The strength of a fragrance will depend on the ratio of the finished blend. Perfume will always be the strongest formulation.

Once you have made up your perfume, set in a cool, dark place for a couple of weeks, checking on it often and giving it a swirl to allowing the essential oils to combine into a harmonious blend.

Popular Essential Oil in the Perfume Industry

Do a quick google search to see how popular angelica is amongst perfumers in this industry. It is quite fascinating!

Your Turn

So what do you think, will you give this a try? Are you ready to compose your masterpiece? When you do, did your perfume blend together harmoniously or, as they say in the perfume industry, were they not “hanging together” (a popular term meaning they weren’t integrating harmoniously).

Have fun with it. Involve the kids and let them try their own hand at making perfume. Best of all, you will have peace of mind knowing the ingredients contained in your final product.
