Did you know that skin is the LARGEST ORGAN of the body? In an average adult it covers about 3000 square inches and weighs about six pounds. Did you know that every pore of our skin is for excretion of waste and to protect us from the harmful effects of the environment?
What we put on our skin and expose this organ to matters greatly when it comes to our health. Think of all the chemicals we apply to our skin daily: As women we start with shampoo and conditioner that absorb into our scalp, we apply body wash which the skin absorbs, than step out of the shower and apply lotion filled with chemicals and ingredients harmful not only to our skin but to other internal organs, add some perfume and of course our cosmetics and don’t forget the hairspray. We bombard our systems with chemicals EVERY day and that’s before we even step out of the bathroom. Add to this the chemicals we use to clean our homes, yep our skin absorbs those too, as do our lungs, and we haven’t even left our homes yet. Now enter our food choices that we feed into our bodies laden with chemicals, preservatives, artificial chemicals and sweeteners. Are you shocked? I sure was. How on earth do we expect to be healthy when our bodies don’t stand a chance.
I am learning to change the things that are in my control, a little at a time. I still have a ways to go and this is part of the reason for blogging. To help others, like myself, to hang in there and not become discouraged. We can do this. We can make a difference. And in the meantime, help others understand the powerful, positive changes we can make in our everyday lives.
Let me introduce you to essential oils. Not all essential oils are alike and we need to be sure that what we purchase are good quality products that we trust to put into our systems for health and healing, not the chemically loaded counterfeit that does the exact opposite. For our home we use Young Living essential oils, a company we can trust and that brings us peace of mind because we know from seed to packaging the steps it takes to make excellent products.
Here is a brief explanation and understanding I’d like to share with you on essential oils:
Essential oils, known as nature’s living energy, are the natural, aromatic volatile liquids found in shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds. The distinctive components in essential oils defend plants against insects, environmental conditions, and disease. They are also vital for a plant to grow, live, evolve, and adapt to its surroundings. Essential oils are extracted from aromatic plant sources via steam distillation, and are highly concentrated and far more potent than dry herbs.
While essential oils often have a pleasant aroma, their chemical makeup is complex and their benefits vast—which makes them much more than something that simply smells good.
Historically, essential oils have played a prominent role in everyday life. With more than 200 references to aromatics, incense, and ointments throughout the Bible, essential oils are said to be used for anointing and healing the sick. Today, essential oils are used for aromatherapy, massage therapy, emotional health, personal care, nutritional supplements, household solutions, and much more.
Young Living Essential Oils, the leading provider of essential oils, offers more than 300 essential oil singles and blends. All Young Living essential oils meet the YLTG standard.
